DESCRIPTION:Speaker: Carole Nash\, Ph.D. \nTopic: Belmont Vineyard and the 19th Century Wine Industry in the Virginia Blue Ridge \n \nPlease join us at at 7 pm on Tuesday\, January 21st\, at the Wayne Theatre in Waynesboro for our first Science Talk of 2025! \nOur speaker will be Carole Nash\, Ph.D.\, James Madison University Professor of Geography in the Department of Integrated Science and Technology\, and CISE Director of Inclusive Excellence. \nShe is also a founder and President of Mountain Valley Archaeology and was recently appointed to the Board of Trustees of the Virginia Museum of Natural History. \nScience Talks are free and open to the public\, with a “donate what you will” to the Wayne Theatre for hosting. The snack and beverage bar will be open for this event. You can view videos of all our previous Science Talks on the Center for Coldwaters Restoration website. \nCarole Nash’s areas of expertise include: \n\nMiddle Atlantic Archaeology\nHuman Ecology\nCitizen Science\n\nNash’s background is in archaeology and her scholarly interests and research topics include the archaeology of the Appalachians\, Native American cultures\, applications of technology in the field sciences\, historical ecology and public participation in science. \nShe is consulting archaeologist and principal investigator for Shenandoah National Park and a registered professional archaeologist. She has 40 years of experience in cultural resource management. \nRecent work includes the study of the impacts of climate change on heritage resources of the Chesapeake Bay region. Combining geospatial\, archaeological and citizen science research\, Nash and her students are developing methodologies for assessment and prediction of these impacts. \nShe received her doctorate in anthropology/archaeology from the Catholic University of America\, a master’s degree in applied philosophy from Bowling Green State University\, and a bachelor of science degree in anthropology and philosophy from James Madison University.
