Serving Waynesboro, Augusta County & the Shenandoah Valley

This October 2008 briefing describes use of benthic flux chambers (BFCs) to measure filter‑passing total mercury (THg), methylmercury (MeHg), iron and manganese from South River streambed habitats. Deployments in May, June, August and September 2008 targeted fine‑grained channel‑margin deposits, embedded gravel, and wetlands. Results indicate FGCM and oxbow/millrace are minor sources; embedded gravel may contribute more due to larger areal extent.

Review Notes : Document is a briefing prepared for the South River Science Team and Expert Panel (October 2008) and includes BFC deployment results from May–September 2008. I selected SRST Meeting Documents and Presentation because the header ties the paper to an SRST meeting; the PDF itself reads like a briefing/technical summary rather than formal peer‑reviewed report.
