Serving Waynesboro, Augusta County & the Shenandoah Valley

Poster presents Phase I laboratory and Phase II field pilot testing of 'Cowboy' biochar to reduce mercury (Hg) bioavailability in South River floodplain soils. Lab results showed reduced methylmercury uptake and lower earthworm mortality; field mesocosms tested 0, 5, and 10% wet/dry biochar amendments with low worm recovery. Preliminary field analyses pending; juveniles expected to show reduced MeHg.
