For over 40 years, the Virginia Association of Soil and Water Conservation Districts has sponsored a week-long summer conservation camp for Virginia high school students (currently enrolled in grades 9th-12th) on the campus of Virginia Tech. The program brings together about 70 interested students for a week of learning about Virginia’s natural resources from conservation professionals and faculty from Virginia Tech. Most of the instruction is hands-on and outdoors. Go to https://vaswcd.org/conservation-camp/ for ore information.
Junior GROWers Camp 2023 is a middle school summer experience, brought to you by Project GROWS and the Blue Ridge Children’s Museum! Junior GROWers will explore where their food comes from and practice observing, identifying, and drawing the butterflies, birds, bugs, and animals that live here. They will investigate the science of soil, go on tree identification walks, help out on the farm, and make some delicious recipes in our outdoor kitchen. They'll spend time being active outside (hiking in the woods, playing games on the lawn, and harvesting veggies in the garden), but also enjoying quiet time working on arts and crafts projects in the shade while snacking on the fruits of their labor. https://www.blueridgechildrensmuseum.org/news/?_sft_category=programs
