South River Preserve Ribbon Cutting

City of Waynesboro Parks and Recreation invites you to attend the formal dedication of the South River Preserve!

This project came into fruition with funding from the DuPont settlement. The purpose was to create and improve habitat for fish, birds, and pollinators that were impacted by mercury contamination as well as improve water quality.

The project is complete and it is easy to look out on its blooming meadows and see that birds, butterflies, and bugs of all sorts are already calling it home. Fishermen are happily casting for the “big one” and fish are finding new places to hide. Beyond these goals, the South River Preserve provides a new respite for residents and visitors alike.

The project removed acres of asphalt from a dilapidated parking lot and replaced them with meadows and trees. Visitors can enjoy the spectacularly improved views and also the sounds of birds chirping and bees buzzing. It’s a new experience and we want to celebrate it!

There will be several speakers, light refreshments, and an optional short tour highlighting the improvements.
