North Park

DURATION: February 2020 – November 2020

STATUS: Completed

RIVERBANK LOCATION: Three locations within North Park

RIVERBANK LENGTH: 1,950 feet

ESTIMATED MERCURY INPUT FROM ERODING BANKS: 30.5%

OUTCOME:
The work at North Park is the largest single project of the Phase 1 riverbank remediation restoration. The restoration increased the usable park area, improved river access, and provided Greenway connectivity. Grass and low shrubs were planted on the remediated riverbanks to allow people to see the South River from the park, and wooden steps and a metal kayak slide rail were installed to the river footpath. Throughout the work, the team worked with the City of Waynesboro Parks and Recreation Department to minimize disruption within the park. In April 2020, Waynesboro Mayor Terry Short posted drone footage to his Facebook page that shows the work in progress. Click here to watch. The video includes a birds-eye view of the North Park remediation construction site and then takes us across 2nd Street bridge to the City Shops (left riverbank) and Allied Ready Mix (right riverbank) bank restoration projects.
