Serving Waynesboro, Augusta County & the Shenandoah Valley

Presentation of 2012 fish tissue mercury monitoring in the South River watershed. DEQ sampled 19 stations across the South River, South Fork Shenandoah, Shenandoah, and North Rivers targeting smallmouth bass, redbreast sunfish, suckers, catfish and stocked trout. Trout remained safe to eat, overall tissue concentrations were similar to prior years, and non‑lethal biopsy sampling proved unacceptable due to analytical issues.
