Serving Waynesboro, Augusta County & the Shenandoah Valley

This conference poster presents a case study of adaptive management to optimize a pilot bank-stabilization remedy for mercury-impacted sites on Virginia’s South River. A 500-foot pilot reach was constructed; monitoring showed temporary increases in near-bank inorganic mercury pore water immediately after construction but consistent declines in sediment and pore-water IHg within three to five years. Interim measures aim to address ~60% of bank loading.
