This briefing paper reports 2012–2013 field and lab investigations at South River RRM 3.5. Teams collected intact soil cores, installed redox, moisture and piezometer sensors, and analyzed Hg speciation and water chemistry. Results show highly elevated soil total Hg (up to ~900 mg/kg), strong redox gradients responsive to precipitation, and variable THg/MeHg in piezometer waters, indicating episodic mobilization.
