Serving Waynesboro, Augusta County & the Shenandoah Valley

This slide deck reports a laboratory pilot evaluating biochar amendments (0, 5, 10% by dry weight) in two soils to assess effects on earthworm mortality, growth, reproduction, plant germination, and mercury (THg and MeHg) uptake. Results showed reduced MeHg in juvenile earthworms and no adverse effects on worms or plants. Phase II caged-earthworm field studies were planned for 2015.
