Serving Waynesboro, Augusta County & the Shenandoah Valley

Slide deck presents a pilot study testing transplanted Corbicula clams as biomonitors for mercury in the South River. Transplants and controls were caged and sampled monthly (Nov 2003–Aug 2004); results showed rapid initial uptake by transplants, seasonal fluctuations, and lower accumulation in transplants versus controls. Recommendations include timing deployments (May–July) and two-month exposure periods.
