Serving Waynesboro, Augusta County & the Shenandoah Valley

Slide presentation reporting a study of mercury (Hg) accumulation and speciation in four turtle species from the South River. Methods included baited hoop traps, blood sampling, and analyses of total Hg, methyl-Hg, selenium and stable isotopes. Results show species-dependent elevated blood Hg versus reference sites, predominantly methylmercury, maternal egg transfer, and recommendations for reproductive-effect studies.
