This fact sheet summarizes a South River Science Team study (2008–2011) that analyzed mercury in edible tissues of 160 samples of waterfowl, small and large game, and snapping turtles. Using conservative assumptions and EPA methods, the team estimated safe yearly numbers of 8-ounce meals per species and concluded many non-fish animals can be eaten at limited frequencies without expected health concern.
