Serving Waynesboro, Augusta County & the Shenandoah Valley

Poster presenting saturated column experiments testing inorganic (limestone, attapulgite clay) and carbon-based (biochar, modified variants) amendments blended at 2–5% with South River mercury-contaminated sediment. Sulfidized biochar and sulfidized clay reduced aqueous Hg release, while unmodified clay increased Hg mobilization and MeHg production. Limestone and unmodified biochar had minimal effect on Hg transport.
