Serving Waynesboro, Augusta County & the Shenandoah Valley

This 2004 assessment summarizes phased floodplain soil sampling along the South River (Waynesboro to Port Republic). Sampling in 2003–2004 included 15 sites and 55 locations (surface samples, multi-depth composites, cores, and eroded bank increments) to evaluate mercury as a residual source. Initial results align with 1980 findings (~10 ppm near Port Republic). Next steps and pending samples are listed.
