VIMS researchers report preliminary September 2014 results from laboratory assays modeling mercury bioaccumulation in the amphipod Hyalella azteca exposed to Dooms Crossing sediments amended with Sedimite® or three size-classes of Cowboy® biochar. At 0 and 2 months post-amendment all sorbents reduced mercury bioavailability (to ~23–35% of unamended), with Sedimite and smaller biochar most effective.
