A 2005 field study measured total mercury and methylmercury in surface coatings (periphyton) along the South River between North Oak Lane and Dooms Crossing Road. Two surveys (June and July) quantified mercury, MeHg, organic carbon, iron, manganese, and δ15N, reporting strong spatial gradients with highest concentrations near Dooms Crossing Road and correlations with river kilometer and total Hg.
