Serving Waynesboro, Augusta County & the Shenandoah Valley

Slide presentation describing field and laboratory studies to identify sources and mechanisms of bioavailable mercury in the South River (Plant reach). Methods include transverse surface-water sampling, near-bank sediment and porewater sampling, hyporheic transects, diffusion-bucket flux tests, and sequential leaching. Results indicate elevated near-bank and hyporheic Hg, bank soils able to supply Hg, and exchangeable leaching behavior.
