Serving Waynesboro, Augusta County & the Shenandoah Valley

May 2004 field campaign used a prototype “guzzler” sediment sampler, drive-point pore-water sampling, and boat floats to map dissolved mercury and methylmercury along the South River near a plant outfall. Results show fractured bedrock with little sediment, pore-water Hg typically 1.9–3.7 ng/L, an unfiltered outfall sample of 12.54 ng/L, and a single oxbow MeHg of 0.866 ng/L.
