Serving Waynesboro, Augusta County & the Shenandoah Valley

Slide presentation by University of Waterloo researchers (Carol Ptacek, David Blowes) reporting characterization of mercury-bearing riverbank sediments at the South River RRM 0.1 bank stabilization pilot site. Analyses (chemical extractions, XRF/XANES, resuspension and leaching columns) indicate an amorphous HgS fraction, variable Hg release, and effective Hg removal using biochar and reactive-media treatments.
