Laboratory microcosm experiments evaluated multiple biochars and activated carbon amended to South River sediment under anaerobic, saturated conditions to assess effects on total mercury and methylmercury over ~235 days. Results show time-dependent decreases in aqueous tHg for some amendments, variable MeHg responses linked to sulfate dynamics, and solid-phase formation of cinnabar associated with Cowboy Charcoal.
