Laboratory bioassays evaluated two sediment sorbents (Sedimite® and Cowboy® biochar) mixed with South River sediments to measure effects on mercury bioaccumulation and detrital processing by the amphipod Hyalella azteca. Results through 95 days show Sedimite® more consistently reduced amphipod mercury than biochar but also reduced feeding rates, likely from fine particles covering leaf material. Final 6-month data pending.
